Videos How It Works

After we had the Kitty Littery (tm) prototypes built, it was time for proof-of-concept testing to see if any kitties would actually climb the stairways and use the litter pan inside. We never met a kitty that could resist scampering up and down a stairway, so we were pretty sure that would not be an issue.

We were less sure that kitties would appreciate that the large Rubbermaid bin inside the cabinet was their new indoor plumbing. However, all the kitties we tested seemed to get it right away, and easily converted from using a floor litter pan to their own private litter pan inside Kitty Littery (tm).

Will your kitty climb up the stairway and use the litter pan inside the Kitty Littery (tm)? We have no way to know that answer so we are unable to offer a satisfaction guarantee, a return policy, or accept returns in the event your kitty isn't the curious type and is unwilling to scamper up the stairs and into the litter pan area to sniff around and explore. Good news, though. Kitties are trainable, so you might need to train your kitty to use the litter pan inside to do its kitty business. We did proof-of-concept testing somewhat unprofessionally by opening the front doors and putting the kitty into the large bin with new, clean litter, and closing the front doors and just let the kitty explore its new private bathroom. Professional trainers might discourage this method, but it worked for us.

We can say, however, that in proof-of-concept testing we were 4 for 4 with different kitties. It just seems like kitties have an innate curiosity to explore and climb, and all four kitties easily scampered up the stairways and once they sniffed around, seemed to innately know what to do next when they got the urge to go kitty pee/poop. We tested two kitties with all brand new litter and two kitties with some of the litter from their existing litter pan underneath the new litter so they could smell their own litter scent from before. The kitties seemed to be neutral to either method. We admit that a test of 4 kitties is not a large testing sample, but it seems that most kitties will get the idea pretty quickly.

Naturally, the training requires you to REMOVE YOUR KITTY'S EXISTING LITTER PAN FROM IT'S HISTORIC FLOOR LOCATION SO YOUR KITTY ISN'T TEMPTED TO JUST CONTINUE USING THE EXISTING LITTER PAN. Either dispose of it or store it away from anywhere your kitty has access to. Otherwise, the kitty will not see the need to climb up the stairway to use Kitty Littery (tm).

Check out the videos below to see a couple of our favorite kitties navigating up and down the stairways and using their new private bathroom inside the Kitty Littery (tm) (warning: minor gross-out alert)!

As you can see from the videos, kitties seem to find it easy to climb up and down the stairway of the Kitty Littery (tm). They don't seem to care if they do their "kitty business" in a litter pan on the floor or in a litter pan inside of a cabinet.

REMEMBER: KITTY LITTERY (tm) IS FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE IN LITTER PAN CLEANING, NOT FOR KITTY'S CONVENIENCE. ELEVATING THE LITTER PAN FROM OFF THE FLOOR SO YOU CAN CLEAN THE LITTER PAN WHILE STANDING UPRIGHT IS THE MAIN PURPOSE OF KITTY LITTERY (tm). STORAGE AND COSMETIC APPEAL ARE BONUS POINTS.
